According to the National Golf Foundation approximately 3.7 million, or 15 percent of all golfers, are residents of a golf-course community. In fact, the NGF says about 45 percent of golf course construction today is part of a residential community.
The fact is, golf course communities are multiplying in the Las Vegas area. Summerlin, Lake Las Vegas, Anthem, Southern Highlands and others continue to add to the selection. Each development has an appeal that far transcends golf, though the magnificence of the courses is undeniable. Increasingly, serious golfers are looking carefully at the idea of living in master-planned communities, which also offer a complete golf course, club and other amenities. Golfers choose to live in these communities because of the lifestyle, which points to golf and more golf, and the country club amenities that are geared towards the golf resort lifestyle. Las Vegas has approximately one golf course for every 40,000 residents.
Golf communities are attracting non-golfers as well. Many of the communities offer other amenities, like swimming pools, baseball and softball fields, basketball, volleyball and tennis courts, and hiking and biking trails. Some also have a community recreation center, club house, restaurant, and reception areas.
Homes in these communities are available in a variety of styles and prices. You can find everything from townhomes to luxurious estate homes. About 42% of golf course communities are gated. The ones that aren't often have private security patrols.
Some of the sport's best architects have laid out courses in Las Vegas. Rhodes Ranch, in southwest Las Vegas, has three Ted Robinson-designed golf courses and plans a new community center. Red Rock features a 44,000-square-foot clubhouse, two Arnold Palmer-designed golf courses, and an 8,000-square-foot events center. Bear's Best Las Vegas, a Jack Nicklaus-designed layout, will replicate signature holes from his courses throughout the southwestern U.S. and Mexico. Bear's Best will be located at The Ridges, Summerlin's newest luxury golf course community.
And with developable land still in ample supply in Las Vegas, more golf communities are expected.
